In 2021, the American President Joe Biden withdrew U.S. support from the Afghan government created by America. The end result was that that government totally and completely collapsed. This should have come as no surprise. However, the U.S. foreign policy leadership in Washington had spent years believing its own propaganda about the huge success it had created in Afghanistan, they believed that the government had huge popular support, was a great military giant and so on and so forth. So it is not fair to blame Joe Biden alone for the disaster that occurred. You have to blame U.S. foreign policy leadership, the same geniuses who thought the war in Iraq was a great idea. The same geniuses who thought the war in Libya was a great idea. The same geniuses who thought the intervention in Syria was a great idea and so on and so forth.
THE CRISIS IN AFGHANISTAN IS FAR FROM OVER
Now it's very important to understand that the Afghan crisis for America is not over. No it is not. There's a lot of talk in Washington (particularly among those people trying to put a pretty face on what happened) that at least we're out of the war and so on and so forth. America is not out of the war and is not out of interfering in the lives of the people of Afghanistan. Indeed, it has seized control of $10 billion that belong to the Afghan people.
YOU CANNOT CONSIDER AFGHANISTAN WITHOUT PAKISTAN
Let's consider some realities. In the first place you cannot consider Afghanistan without Pakistan, one of the world's most dangerous nuclear states. The Durand Line, the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, is a creation of western imperialism, not of the people who actually live there. In Afghanistan and in Pakistan you have Pashtun populations that are on both sides of the border. So this is an artificial border.
RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM IN AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN
The extreme religious movements in Pakistan and in Afghanistan are very tightly connected. So what happens in Afghanistan influences Pakistan and vice versa. Indeed, the Taliban came from Pakistan so that is a reality. These religious groups have been greatly inspired — understandably — by the victory of the Taliban over American imperialism in Afghanistan. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
So what is to come? What's to come if things don't change is death on an enormous scale in Afghanistan and huge political turmoil in Afghanistan leading to more death and more chaos, which is all going to spill over into Pakistan, virtually 100% and fuel more religious extremism in Pakistan against a nuclear state. Why is this going to happen? Because the Taliban government that came to power in Kabul is a very weak government as a coalition of militias and it is very unclear that this government has the power to control the whole country and to enforce order. The only hope they would have of doing that is to have the financial resources to do so.
WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?
So what is America doing? The notion that America is now out of Afghanistan is nonsense. America is directly intervening in Afghanistan as we talk in a totally disastrous way. America has decided that it is so smart and so moral that it has gone off with the money that belongs to the people of Afghanistan and has frozen that money. The end result is that the Afghan economy has collapsed, and the Afghan government has basically no money and the whole country is facing mass starvation on the eve of winter, particularly since harvests have been very bad the last couple of years and the U.S. puppet government that had been previously set up by the US was not very competent and so on and so forth.
WHAT TO DO?
So what to do? The first thing that America needs in light of its utter incompetence in Afghanistan is to stop intervening in Afghanistan and let the Afghan people have their money. Now there's a controversy about whether the Taliban government does or does not represent the Afghan people. So at least a large part of that money, a large part of the $10 billion, needs to be released. Specifically, around $2 billion of that needs to be released soon. The alternative for that is complete chaos and death.
