WHAT DOES BERNIE SANDERS NEED TO DO TO WIN THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION?

Can Bernie Sanders win the 2016 Presidential Election?

We believe it is possible. Bernie Sanders is a good man with good ideas. He has done the extraordinary in terms of his fundraising campaign.

However, he has failed in the debates to frame himself as a clear challenger to Hillary Clinton. As you probably already know, she has a majority of the support from the Democratic party establishment, and a majority of the attention in the mainstream media. Many people who like Sanders also think they could do just as well to vote for Hillary - and see her as more likely to win the election.

Can we really allow Trump or Mrs. Clinton to win in 2016? Both outcomes would be a disaster. So Sanders isn't just a choice, he's the only choice.

We respect Sanders' choice to run a clean campaign that avoids mud slinging. But he cannot win if he does not show himself as a clear challenger to Hillary.

It is vitally important that Sanders begin to position himself as the necessary alternative. While people have been talking a great deal about her scandal with the emails, the real issues go ignored.

Here's the main thing Bernie Sanders needs to do in order to win: he needs to openly challenge Hillary Clinton's enthusiastic support and involvement with wars over seas. He needs to challenge her record on American imperialism.

HILLARY CLINTON'S SUPPORT FOR BUSH'S WAR IN IRAQ

America's wars abroad have led to disaster after disaster in the 21st century. President Bush's military invasion of Iraq was a huge disaster. The Iraq war has lead to the deaths of around one million Iraqi civilians, it has spread instability, chaos and disaster all over the Middle East, and has cost the U.S. government about $3 trillion or more. This war was highly unpopular with the Democratic base, and Obama even gained political support in 2008 with promises to end this war. And yet, Hillary Clinton was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of George Bush's invasion of Iraq. This is not something mentioned in today's presidential debates, but certainly would be an area of contention for many Democrats.

LIES AND DISASTER IN LIBYA

Mrs. Clinton learned very little from the disaster in Iraq. When she became Secretary of State, she endorsed a campaign to attack the government of Libya on the grounds that she was supposedly saving people from a massacre, a story which later turned out to be a fraud. In the process of attacking and overthrowing the government of Col. Qaddafi, she aligned America with some of the most extreme and intolerant Islamic forces in the Middle East. This was a moral abomination as well as policy stupidity. Today Libya is in chaos. It's a total disaster. Mrs. Clinton was allowed to dodge this entire issue.

SUPPORT FOR ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS IN SYRIA AND YEMEN

In 2012 Mrs. Clinton supported overthrowing the government of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria again in a coalition with some of the same bad actors, the extreme Islamic elements backed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This also turned into a total catastrophe leading to the rise of ISIS. ISIS came out of the Western support for Islamic extremists trying to overthrow the government of Assad. So there is a connection between Mrs. Clinton's support for Islamic extremists among the rebels, and the eventual rise of ISIS.

Mrs. Clinton also supported the policies in Yemen which have led to further chaos in the region.

CLINTON VOICES SUPPORT FOR NEW COLD WAR AND INSULTS RUSSIA

Mrs. Clinton has also been hog-wild about starting a New Cold War. She even made the crazy and outrageous accusation that Putin was similar to Hitler. Do we really want our Commander and Chief saying such things about major world leaders?

THE DISASTER OF AMERICAN IMPERIALISM

So in the last decade, America's interventions have been a tremendous disaster that have killed hundreds of thousands of people. Mrs. Clinton didn't just support imperialism in Iraq. She as Secretary of State made it very clear that she wanted to use American military power to basically rule the world and eliminate people that she didn't like. Despite America's huge military budget, there is not enough money in the world to support such a policy.

We could also go on to discuss the drone attacks, which have also been a disaster and a fraud in so far as the Obama administration's claim that they do not kill civilians. But there is only so much we can discuss in this memo. See more at our report about Obama's Drone War.

So these policies of American imperialism and intervention have been a disaster. Yet Sanders has failed to articulate an alternative to them.

Now one alternative is the issue of democracy. America could simply allow elections in these countries to see who they might choose, rather than having Mrs. Clinton arrogantly claim that she's going to pick out leaders herself.

CAN AMERICA REALLY AFFORD ENDLESS WAR?

NO. IT'S TIME FOR AN ALTERNATIVE. IT'S TIME FOR BERNIE SANDERS

The fact of the matter is that America cannot continue to go on the road of imperialism. This is going to bankrupt us, as well as inspiring a larger and larger group of people overseas to attack us. So this is a vital issue of national security.

Sanders cannot win unless he challenges the concept of imperialism, period. He can't just be a "Johnny one note" about the rule of the rich. His points are valid, but that's not enough.

Americans are tired of endless war. Trillions have been wasted. It's time for this money to be spent on America. It's time for Bernie Sanders to be the voice of sanity that America needs.
