WHO IS HELLCATS?
Well, one thing is for certain, we're definitely not talking about the frou-frou group of cheerleaders from the television series of the same name. Hellcats is a heavy metal spectacle that truly does justice to their band name. This beautiful band of misfits are the first all-female metal group from their home country, Slovenia. The group started out as an idea shared between two sisters, Sonja Zagorc (drums/backing vocals) and Sasha Zagorc (bass/backing vocals), who grew up playing music together. The original brains behind the operation, sisters Sonja and Sasha are also responsible for all Hellcats' lyrics. Coming from an area where the music scene isn't all too vivacious, finding female musicians to accompany their project was no easy task. Fortunately, the sisters found solace in two new members: Katja Mavec, guitarist, and Ana Šinkovec, lead vocalist.
Many fans of classic heavy metal will appreciate the sound and vibe of Hellcats. With spot-on guitar solos, clean, strong vocals and lyrics that quickly become catchy, there's a great chance these ladies will soon grace your music library. The quartet seamlessly blends unmistakable femininity with a sharp, steel edge. Don't let the pretty faces fool you, because after viewing one Hellcats stage performance, you'll quickly realize that their sound is far from "girl rock." Though the group may be relatively new to the scene, they have carved out a niche for themselves in a pretty short period of time. In 2010, Hellcats recorded their first single, "Heavy Metal." Along with a second song recorded both in English and Slovenian, their demo disc was released in 2011. Just a year later, in 2012, the group toured several cities in Russia, including Moscow. Currently still on tour, Hellcats will soon hit another venue called Orto Bar in their homeland of Slovenia. The band has been working hard on a new album, which we should be able to rock out to sometime this year in 2013.
