The following links offer resources on sexuality in general. We
believe that for reasons of human rights and sexual health, it is
important to put information about sexuality out in the public
sphere. American society has a more constipated view of sexuality
than other parts of the world (specifically Europe). This limited
view on sexuality is not only oppressive, but it is dangerous.
Currently, America has the highest rates of teen pregnancies in
the developed world. Also, with high rates of divorce, STIs,
abuse, rape, and other types of sexual violence - we can see that
America's puritanical sex views aren't working too well.
With its roots in a Puritanical tradition, American sex norms are repressed and behind many of the other developed countries in the world. For example, 86% of public school districts in the U.S. require that abstinence be promoted in their Sexual Education programs. Half of all school districts in the south promote an abstinence only program - even though it has been shown that abstinence only education is not effective. If anything, an abstinence only view on sex education is adding fuel to the fire - helping the spread of STI's and unwanted teen pregnancies. Everett Koop, Reagan's Surgeon General, is notorious for saying that there needs to be more explicit material about sex in the student curriculum as a matter of public health.

11 Facts About Sex Education in the US
The following set of charts from a recent Huffington post article illustrate just how America's insane views of sex have poisoned the educational system, and leave millions of youths at risk for diseases, unwanted pregnancies and other dangerous situations that could have been prevented with proper sex education.
Prostitution is the world's oldest profession. It existed more
than 40,000 years ago and it will exist many years from now.
There is nothing any world government can do to stop
prostitution entirely. We believe that legalizing this ancient
profession would have many benefits for society. Among many of
these benefits would be lowered STI transmission rates, a
decrease in violence against women and rape, less exploitation
of teens, a boost to the economy, and a decrease in crime. Check
the links below to see more details about the benefits of
legalizing prostitution.

There needs to be more safe sex and how to guides on the
internet. While access to pornography is often one click away,
it is actually more difficult to find information on HOW TO have
safe sex. One key example is the lack of resources out there
about safe anal sex. While 40% of Americans engage in anal sex,
many do it in an unsafe manner that contributes to the spread of
STI's.

VOICES FROM THE INDUSTRY
Many people base their opinions on the sex industry solely on assumptions, mostly disgusted, uneducated or otherwise belittling ones. In this day and age, with society's negligence of the ever-growing adult industry, it is crucial to have actual porn performers and other sex workers share their inside knowledge of the industry, and deliver healthy, unfiltered views about sexual health and rights.
STOYA DOLL
Stoya, A North Carolina native and a well-known name in the porn film world, is a career woman who has always had a sex-positive view. She began performing in pornographic films in 2007 with a studio called Digital Playground. She is known as the company's first "alt" (alternative) porn star (Wikipedia). Contrary to the public notion that female porn stars must be desolate and forced to choose such careers, Stoya has publicly stated that exploring her sexuality on film has been a personally liberating and fun experience. After her contract with Digital Playground came to an end, she refocused her efforts on directing her own films, the first of which is scheduled to release some time in 2014 (CNBC). She has won several AVN awards for her adult performances, including the award for Best New Starlet in 2009 (IMBD).
Aside from her sex work on film, Stoya has been regarded as one of the most intellectual women of the industry and is known for her advocacy work. She regularly posts articles of different subjects including politics, women's health, sex education, feminism and more. She is also a contributing writer for the magazine VICE.

ASA AKIRA
Asa Akira is a popular name in porn these
days, not just because of her title as the supposed "queen of anal," but
because of the positive, carefree (but smart) attitude she carries about
her career and about sex in general. Shortly after graduating high school
(she is currently 28 years old), she began working as a dominatrix. She
later became a stripper for the Hustler Club in New York (Wikipedia).
Akira eventually entered the world of pornography, and very quickly made a
name for herself, winning the 2012 XBIZ Performer of the Year Award in
2012 (XBIZ). Asa Akira is
another shining example that breaks America's stereotype of destitute,
"airhead" porn performers.
In a recent interview with VICE magazine, Akira revealed that she has just written and released her first book, Insatiable. In the book, Akira explains her own sexual fetishes and experiences, her family's support for her career choice, and her own personal sex life. She also gives insight to the behind-the-scenes aspects of what it's really like to film porn, why she does it, and why there is nothing wrong with loving her job. She promotes a healthy view for today's sexual woman, and she hopes that women especially enjoy her book, and revisit the way that they view sex.
