After the terrorist attack of September 11th, ideas on privacy and security were forever changed in America. The Patriot Act was passed, which allowed the FBI greater agency to search telephone, emails and financial records without a court order. All of this was done with the expressed intention of protecting American citizens, and several assurances that such measures would only be used against those suspected of terrorism or harming national interests.

In 2013, a whistle blower named Edward Snowden revealed one of the greatest security leaks in U.S. history - the NSA had been collecting the calls of millions of U.S. customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecom providers. While the NSA claimed that they had been using meta-data to spy on terrorists, the leak revealed that the NSA was spying on millions of Americans citizens without a warrant.

How much does the government know about our secrets? How much do vast corporations know? Is there a difference?

Front-Line tells the story of just how far this surveillance program is willing to go.

Corporate America and the Security state know so much about us, and we know so little about them. Behind the smiles and promises of public safety, a more menacing agenda begins to unfold.
