Led Zeppelin's
influences are shrouded in a veil of mysticism. The question of whether their music has occult meanings
is greatly debated. We cannot directly say whether the occult
plays a role in their music or not. It would be up to the
members of the band to officially confirm or deny this fact. In
recent years, they have not been very forth coming about this
topic. So instead, we will include references on this page that
show a possibility of interest in the occult - and allow you,
the reader to decide for yourself whether they were involved or
not. It is believed that they used different pagan and
occult influences in their music, along with references to
Mythology and Middle Earth Fantasy. We'll let the music speak
for itself.

Oh... Satan and man....
Aleister Crowley hailed Lucifer
as the bringer of love and knowledge to the sterile perimeters of
Eden.
He stated that the key to joy was disobediance.
In the Houses of the Holy, such seeds of joy are planted in a
garden.
Music, movies, drugs and Satan are all intertwined
together.
Music and Satan are harbringers of joy and light
to man.
"So mote it be" and
"Do what thou wilt" was inscribed on the 3rd
album cover. This is said to have a direct reference
to Aleister Crowley's Thelema philosophy of "Do what
thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law,
love under will. There is no law beyond do what thou wilt."

JIMMY PAGE THE MAGE
Jimmy Page and the Occult: Something that one might
find interesting to know is that Jimmy Page bought the
Boleskine House (formally owned by occultist Aleister Crowley) in the 1971 and
owned it well into the 1980's. This demonstrated only a part
of his interest in the occult and Crowley. It is said that
Page also obtained Crowley's manuscripts, tarot deck, and
one of his robes. Jimmy Page was a collector of occult
books, especially writings from Crowley. In the early
1970's, Page opened an occult bookshop and publishing house
called "The Equinox Bookstore and Publishing" in Kensington
High Street, London. Shortly after Led Zeppelin started to
pick up steam, the bookshop had to be closed down due to the
lack of time to devote to it. Page became associated
with Kenneth Anger when he commissioned Page to
do a music track for Anger's film, "Lucifer Rising," which
later fell through. Kenneth Anger and Page shared common
interest in the occult and Aleister Crowley.
-Mick Wall, writer, tells his perspective on Led Zeppelin's
pagan and occult influences along with Jimmy Page's interest
in Crowley. MickWall: Led Zeppelin.
Some people say that this band
sold their souls to the devil due to Jimmy Page's deep
interest in the occult and Aleister Crowley's work. Others say
that neither Page nor Crowley dared dabble in black magic, nor
did they worship Satan. Crowley has either been argued to be a
Satanist who practiced black magick and considered "Wickedest
man on Earth" or described as a very intelligent man who was
way ahead of his time, a prolific writer, and merely immersed
in occult life and misunderstood. It is still heavily
debated today. Was Jimmy Page a Satanist or was he just a
curious explorer of the occult and other pagan beliefs? Was it
just a way to provoke a mystical or mysterious essence behind
Led Zeppelin's musical career or is there a deeper and more
secretive side?
Outline of Aleister Crowley's
life:
Aleister Crowley
started life as Edward Alexander Crowley. Born into a
wealthy family whose Father and Mother were both part of the
Exclusive Brethren. Because of their more conservative ways
of life, Aleister's parents pushed Christianity upon him.
Some have said that at a young age he began to see
inconsistencies within his teachings and within the bible.
He became skeptical of his parents' faith and religion and
eventually turned his back on it. This turning point in his
life was significant, he then became quite intrigued by the
occult life. At the age of 21, Aleister joined the Order of
the Golden Dawn. Aleister Crowley is said to
practice ritual magic, traditional spiritual practice, tantric
sex, drug usage, and belonged to the A.'.A.'., Ordo Templi
Orientis (OTO or The Order of Oriental Templars) and was
accredited to founding the Thelema philosophy and religion.
Aleister Crowley is presumed by some to be a Satanist and
engaged in black magick, if this is so then it has never been
documented or publicly announced.
Boleskine House which was
formally owned by Aleister Crowley from 1899-1913. It's said
that the house was originally bought by Crowley due to some
structural and placement conditions that were necessary for
performing the operation found within The Book of Sacred
Magick of Abra-Melin the Mage. It is also said that it is like
Thelemic Kiblah and a focal point for magical energies.
To make this more
interesting, let's look at a bundle of interconnected
relationships between Jimmy Page, Aleister Crowley, and
Kenneth Anger that stems out to Charles Manson. One could argue that Jimmy
Page is loosely connected to the Manson Family through his
connection with the Aleister Crowley follower Kenneth Anger,
who in turn worked with Bobby Beausoleil (a member of The
Manson Family, convicted murder, actor, and musician.)
Kenneth Anger
Kenneth Anger is a
cinematographer, a devote follower of Aleister Crowley, is
said to be a high level practitioner of occult magic and
that Anger's films are cinematic manifestations of his
occult practices. It is said that he is a Thelemite, member
of the Ordo Templi Orientis, and associates himself as a
living embodiment of Lucifer. Lucifer is a symbol of the
Aeon of Horus in Thelema philosophy and has it tattooed on
Anger's chest. Kenneth Anger was a life long friend to Aton
LaVey long before and after LaVey founded the Church of
Satan. However, he declares that he is not a Satanist and
considers himself a pagan. Kenneth Anger and Jimmy Page
knew each other through their shared interest in Crowley.

LUCIFER RISING FILM
When Kenneth Anger started
filming Lucifer Rising, he employed Bobby Beausoleil to play the role of
Lucifer. However, the two of them had a falling out part way
through filming. Allegedly said by Kenneth Anger, Bobby
Beausoleil ran off with the film rolls before joining Charles
Manson and the Family, claiming to have buried them in Death
Valley. Shortly after, Beausoleil was involved in the Manson
Family murder of Gary Hinman and sentenced to life
imprisonment. Kenneth Anger started again with actor Mick
Jagger obtaining the role of Lucifer. Jimmy Page was asked to
make the sound track for Lucifer Rising. It's said that after
three years, Page ended up giving Anger a sound track that was
inadequate in length to the specified time requested (this may
have been due to his addiction with heroine.) This in
turn resulted in Anger having to find someone else to create
the sound track. He turned his sights back on Bobby
Beausoleil, who composed and recorder the sound track while
imprisoned.
