WORLD IN CRISIS

Where will the 21st century take us? Will we build a bridge to a better tomorrow or drive this country straight off a cliff because we can't embrace the change needed to improve the future?

Currently, America's oil dependent cars are driving on the road towards disaster. Two thirds of this oil is imported, and much of it from countries that hate us.

Since the 1980's, America has slashed its research funding for renewable energy by over 75%. The result?  Rising gas prices, endless involvement in foreign wars, environmental pollution, and dramatic climate change that is going to make life on this planet very difficult.

Without technological advances in renewable energy, it will not be possible for the world to cut its carbon emissions without damaging economic growth.

A Manhattan Project On Renewable Energy

What we need now is an intense technological collaboration of the world's brightest minds on Renewable Energy Solutions. If we can channel this type of intense collaboration towards mass destruction, why can't we also use the same focus to save life?

Currently, renewable energy makes up a very small part of world energy production. However, we believe there is hope. There have been great technological advances in this field despite the government's total lack of leadership in this endeavor. The cost of wind and solar energy have dropped dramatically in recent years. With some of the most advanced technology in the world, America still has what it takes to build a bridge into the future.

What Is Needed?

Incentives: We need to review the most efficient methods of spending government money. Funding for the future is obviously the most important investment the government can make. Therefore, we need to examine how much money should be spent on tax incentives and government research.

Presidential Leadership: The president needs to bring together the major business and industry leaders to see what steps are needed to mobilize business for this task. He needs to communicate in strong terms the urgency of this task and the commitment of the administration.

Permanent Executive Focus: The president needs to focus on this task. Appointing a council on renewable energy in the white house would be a start.

Adequate Funding: This is a matter of National Security. It should be treated as such in the government's budget. Where there is a will, there is a way. America needs to spend at least a billion dollars a year on this matter for the next ten years and make this a top national priority for the public and private sector.
